There is one genre of tattoos, among many, that can be appreciated for its rich history and these are the tribal dragon tattoos. In Chinese mythology, the dragon represents qualities of power and strength. Therefore it has been highly respected and revered for many of its fine and delicate qualities. So clearly it is a very important figure within the dynamics of Chinese heritage.
The Chinese attribute many different virtues to the dragon. It is considered to personify the Yang, a basic concept of Chinese philosophy. The Yang is the masculine half of the world while Yin is the female side. You can also see the dragon represented in Chinese Astrology.
It is interesting to know that the dragon symbol was brought to the West by returning travelers from China. History also suggests the dragon was often linked with the emperor.
At first the symbols were drawn in the mode of calligraphy. The symbol then changed with the passing of time to what we have today - limitless variations.
